Weekends with dad and school woes
Dear Lindsay,
My parents are divorced and I spend every weekend with my dad in
San Jose. Sometimes I wish I could stay in Hollister and hang out
with my friends. I don’t want to hurt my dad’s feelings so I am not
sure how to tell him I don’t want to go with him every weekend.
What should I do?

Weekends with dad and school woes

Dear Lindsay,

My parents are divorced and I spend every weekend with my dad in San Jose. Sometimes I wish I could stay in Hollister and hang out with my friends. I don’t want to hurt my dad’s feelings so I am not sure how to tell him I don’t want to go with him every weekend. What should I do?

-Parentally Lost

Dear Parentally Lost,

I have a friend who used to be in this exact situation. Plan ahead when and where you want to hang out with your friends, so you can present it to your dad saying you hope to stay with your mom. Let him know that it is not that you are bored or don’t like him, but you need some social time as well. Make sure you, your mom, and your dad are all in an agreement on if it is ok to stay or go.

Dear Lindsay,

My mom is always bugging me to eat breakfast before I go to school, but I am just not hungry. How can I get her to leave me alone?

-No, Thanks

Dear No, Thanks,

I can definitely relate to the breakfast situation. Sometimes you just don’t have time or food doesn’t look appealing to you. What I do is pack a little something in the morning, just in case. Chances are when I see it, it will start to actually look good. You should always eat something because once the stomach starts hurting classes go on forever! It doesn’t have to be something big, but something to hold you over until break or lunch.

Dear Lindsay,

Since school started, I am having a really hard time with my math class. I just feel lost whenever I am in class or working on my homework. I need the class to graduate so where can I go for help?

-No Math Genius

Dear No Math Genius,

A tutor is just what you need. Luckily, on campus we have Club Ed. Club Ed is a group of student tutors who will help you get through whatever subject you need help in. For only $13 dollars an hour, they will help you with your math skills so you won’t feel lost anymore. Because they are students, possibly your own age, you will be able to feel more at ease with the tutor situation because sometimes admitting you have a tutor is hard. Talk to Miss Flores about it, the teacher who helps coordinate Club Ed. She’ll be happy to help.

Dear Lindsay,

I am a senior and I am super stressed about applying for college. What should I do to make sure I am picking the right schools for me?

-College Bound

Dear College Bound,

The word “college” makes me uneasy too so I know where you’re coming from. Coming up at the high school, we are having field trips to tour different colleges. You get a taste of what school is like there, and get a lot of information. Monterey Bay, UC Santa Cruz, and UC Fresno are on the list of schools. Go to the career center, or talk to your counselor about what school is right.
