A 46-year-old Hollister woman died Thursday night from injuries suffered when she was run over with a motor home the night before, the Hollister Police Department reported.
Michelle Williams was pronounced dead at 9:50 p.m. Thursday at Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital. She was sent there Wednesday night with a broken pelvis and internal bleeding, officers reported.
Hollister Police Sgt. Carlos Reynoso, head of the department’s detective bureau, said no one has been arrested and that it looks like an accident, but there could be criminal liability.
“We’ve got to take everything into consideration,” Reynoso said. “There are many factors.”
Reynoso said that once the investigation is done, police will forward reports to the San Benito County District Attorney’s Office for review.
Hollister police officers were called at 9:21 p.m. Wednesday to the intersection of Third and Sally streets to find an injured Williams, the department reported.
Police reported Williams and Michael Castro, a 51-year-old Hollister resident, began arguing earlier in the evening, and that she went to a local bar and began drinking.
Reynoso said Castro was not drinking.
Officer Rosie Betanio, spokeswoman for the Hollister Police Department, said Williams returned intoxicated and began another argument with Castro.
Castro entered the motor home and backed out of its parking space, police said.
As Castro began to drive forward, Williams grabbed onto the mirror, but eventually let go, officers said. She fell under the motor home and was run over by the double tires on the rear driver’s side, Reynoso said.
Castro left the vehicle and saw her lying on the ground, Betanio said. Reynoso said Castro began CPR and was begging witnesses to call 911.
The sergeant added that Castro has cooperated fully with the department’s investigation.
“There’s been no intention of ever hiding anything,” Reynoso said.
Williams’ family members were unavailable for comment Friday.
