Hollister – A local woman won a $10,000 cash prize last week participating in an online contest connected with the NBC show “Deal or No Deal.”
Susan Mattson, who described herself as a “private person” and declined to comment, won the “Lucky Case Game” Friday night when the show aired.
“Deal or No Deal” is a popular game show where contestants select from a collection of briefcases containing anywhere from $1 million to one cent, presented by beautiful models in very little dresses.
Through trial and error, contestants attempt to discern which brief case holds the most prize money. Contestants ask friends and family in the audience for advice, but ultimately the decision of which case to choose is up to them.
The show has a home component, as well, called the “Lucky Case Game,” open to loyal viewers with access to a computer and Internet connection or a cell phone.
At certain points in the show, several numbered briefcases are presented to the television audience, one of which contains $10,000.
Viewers log on to NBC.com and pick the case they believe to hold the prize money, or text message NBC for a 99 cent fee with the number of the case they choose.
Those who select the correct case are then put into a lottery – viewers have several chances to play to increase their odds of winning. At the end of the show, a winner is selected at random and announced live.
Three winners are chosen each night, one for each time zone, although residents in Hawaii and Alaska cannot play.
So far, 32 people in addition to Mattson have won the $10,000 prize, five of which hail from California. Other California winners make their homes in Ivanhoe, San Diego, Stockton, Pomona and Milpitas.
Deal or No Deal airs Mondays and Fridays at 8pm.
