San Benito County Rideshare recognizes the changing commuter environment in San Benito County. According to the Metropolitan Transportation Commission, 48 percent of San Benito workers leave the county to work. The average person in the U.S. spent 26 hours more commuting in 2000 than in 1990. Additionally, waiting in rush-hour delays costs the country $68 billion annually, according to the Texas Transportation Institute.

To help combat motor vehicle congestion and rising costs of commuting, San Benito County Rideshare provides commuters with alternative commute information. We offer ridematching services, commuter van pool programs and two annual events – Bike Week in May, and Rideshare Week in October. The goal of these services is to provide incentives to commuters to try an alternative to driving alone.

Our newest programs, the Van pool Program, expanded to include a fleet of brand new 2002 Chevrolet Express van pool vans. The new vans are fully equipped with 15 seats, front and rear A/C and a CD player. The vans are available for lease to commuters who work or live in San Benito County. Van pooling is a highly economical way to commute to work over driving alone. Employees arrive at work more relaxed and ready for the day. Van pools are the most cost effective when the commute is 20 mile or more.
