passed away at Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital on April 26 at the
age of 81.
Long-time San Benito County Educator Loretta Theressa Bowman passed away at Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital on April 26 at the age of 81.
A native of Haburn, Idaho, Loretta graduated from San Benito High School and obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Education from San Jose State Teachers College. Her first teaching assignment was in Southside/Panoche area for a two years and then she transferred to the Prunedale Elementary School where she taught kindergarten and first grade for 35 years and she received her 35 year pin.
“She was a great teacher,” said her family. Early in her career she also taught at the primary grade level as well as served as a librarian for her church, the Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints. Loretta was a member of the California Retired Teachers Association. Her activities and hobbies included wood-working, arts and crafts, reading; camping and fishing, traveling in the motorhome, playing games and puzzles, painting and creating stained glass art work and satisfying her passion for crocheting. “She was an all around person with many facets which provided for enjoyment,” said her family.
Miss Bowman is survived by two brothers and their spouses Donald and June Bowman of Texas; and William and Gracie Bowman of Nevada; and her sister-in-law Joyce Bowman of Mokelumne Hill. She was preceded in death by her brother Sterling Bowman. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, grand-nieces , grand-nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held at the Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints 1670 Cienega Rd., Hollister on Monday May 2 beginning at 10am, followed by funeral services at 11am Interment will follow at the IOOF Cemetery.
