Hollister’s Joseph Schulman, right, and Gilroy’s Rafael Garcia, left, were on the 2003 Super Series 10U National Championship team, the Yankees, based out of San Jose. The championship tournament was held Dec. 27-Jan. 2 in Phoenix. The tournament was open to 12 teams who qualified from around the country. The Yankees had to win twice on the final day, defeating a team from Dallas 13-10 and then 7-5 to capture the crown. Schulman played second base and had a couple key hits in the finals to help the team to victory. He was also part of the 9-10 Hollister National All-Star team which won the Division 2 championship. Garcia was awarded MVP defensive player for his stellar performance on the pitching mound.
