Now that the absentee ballots have all been counted, and it is clear that Measure E has passed, Gavilan College would like to thank the voters of this district for their vision and commitment to the future. In these tough economic times, we appreciate the investment and the opportunity to be your college of choice with up-to-date facilities for job-training and higher education.

The challenge now will be to renovate the existing campus and begin work on additional facilities to serve tomorrow’s students. We would like to begin as soon as possible, and to do so we need volunteers from the community to serve on a Citizen’s Oversight Committee that will keep taxpayers informed.

The Citizen’s Oversight Committee will be responsible for holding open meetings and reporting back to the community with an annual audit and progress report. The committee will be comprised of at least seven members, with a minimum of one each representing a senior citizens’ organization, a bona fide taxpayers organization, an auxiliary of a college district and a Gavilan College student active in a student organization. Committee members will serve for two years and be selected by the Gavilan College Board of Trustees.

Applications are due May 1. For more information, or to get an application go to www.gavilan.edu/bond.html, or call (408) 848-4711.

Thank you for your support.
