Charleen Alvein Parmenter died Feb. 24 in Tulsa, Okla. after a
long illness. She was 77.

She was born and raised in Santa Cruz, and in 1950, moved to Paicines after she married. She lived there for 21 years while she raised her family. During that time, she was a San Benito County 4-H leader and was very active in the San Benito County CowBelles. When she was president of that organization, she and a committee exhibited the group’s fair booth at the California State Fair.
After moving back to Santa Cruz and living there for several years, she moved to Oklahoma.
She is survived by her daughters Sue Blevins and husband David of Owassa, Okla. and Peggy Bettencourt and husband Manuel of Paicines. She is also survived by her son and wife Rusty and Sherrie Alvein of Oak Run, Calif. and grandchildren Janis Day of Oregon, Gina and R.C. Alvein of Oak Run, Vickie Tonder, Shelley Warren and Lainy Bettencourt of Paicines and Karen Alvein of Orange, Calif.
She also had five great-grandchildren: Lizzy and Hanne Tonder, Samantha and Mickayla Warren and Billy Day.
