The San Benito boys golf team finished in third place in a three-team meet Thursday at Eagle Ridgle in Gilroy.

Salinas won with a score of 211, Gilroy finished second with 213 and San Benito had a score of 225.

Chris Shackleton led the Balers with a 39. He was just one stroke behind medalist Steven Feeth.

“Chris is playing very well,” said coach Mark Tinder. “He has a very good positive attitude. He is splitting the middle with his drives – long and straight.”

Chase Graves had a 40 for the Balers, and Zach Zgragen had a 46.

“They aerated the greens three days ago,” Tinder said. “The sand really slowed down the greens. Eagle Ridge normally has fast greens, but Zach wasn’t able to get used to it. It was pretty uncharacteristic of him. But I know he will step up to meet his high standards.”

Curtis Rhodes scored a 48 and Wesley Nelsen had a 52. The non placer was Ryan Wood with a 56

The next meet is at Salinas Country Club at 2:30 p.m. Monday with all the varsity teams in the Tri-County Athletic League.
