Softball tournament

The Santa Cruz Softball Classic for men’s and co-ed ‘D’ and novice teams will be held May 29 and 30 at DeLaveaga Park in Santa Cruz. Details: call 464-0738.

SBHS physicals

Physicals for the 2004-05 school year, including summer practices and camps, will be held May 21 at 3:30 p.m. in the training room (349). Athletes or their parents need to sign up in advance with Karen Zanella in the student payment center room (353). Everyone must use the new CIF approved physical form, which will be passed out when signing up for the physical.

This physical will be good for all of the 2004-05 school year.

Soccer Registration

Hollister Tremors Youth Soccer Club is holding registration for the fall 2004 season. Mail-in and walk-in registrations are available. Boys and girls ages 4-14 are welcome. There are separate boys and girls teams. Walk-in registration will be held May 22, from noon to 2 p.m. at the soccer field at Veterans Park and on June 3 and 17 from 7-9 p.m. at Briggs Building at Veterans Park. For ages 4-6, the fee is $65, and for 7 and up, it is $75. The cost includes uniform, insurance and photo. Bring a copy of your child’s valid birth certificate and a 1′ x 1.5′ photo (heat shot only, no hats)

Support needed

San Benito athletes Johnny DiSalvo and Jesse Rice still need to raise about $1,000 for their trip to Australia this summer to compete on the California State track team. They will be holding a spaghetti feed on Friday from 6-9 p.m. at the Apostolic Church. Tickets for adults are $7.50, and tickets for kids 5 and under are $4. Alumni game

San Benito High School will be putting on an alumni baseball game June 5 at 7 p.m. at the Babe Ruth field in honor. Details: Call baseball coach Derek Barnes at 634-1650.

Sweetheart dance

Hollister Pop Warner will be sponsoring a Sweetheart dance featuring ’50s, ’60s and ’70s style rock and roll and a tri-tip dinner.

Football Camp

The First Annual Jeff Garcia Football Camp for kids will be held June 15-16 at Valley Christian High School in San Jose. The camp is open to boys and girls ages 9-13. The total cost per camper is $125 for both days.

The camp stresses detailed teaching for basic skills and fundamentals in a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere. It is a non-contact program. The staff includes top local college and high school coaches as well as current and past NFL players. Details: Call (408) 535-0144.

Softball tourney

Hollister Heat will be holding the Fastpitch Classic Tournament on May 29-30. The Nor-Cal ASA Junior Olympic pre-qualifier is open to Class A teams of for ages 16U, 14U, 12U and 10U and Class B teams of ages 14U, 12U and 10U. Five games are guaranteed. The registration fee is $325 and $305 if received by May 7.

Literacy Run

The Annual Run for Literacy will be held June 12 in San Juan Bautista. All proceeds go to the Adult Literacy Program of San Benito County. There are three races – a 10K run, a 5K run and a 5K walk.

Medals are awarded to the top three finishers in standard age categories. The entry fee includes T-shirt and water bottle. The cost is $25 if registered by June 8 or $28 after. Register online at www.freelancenews.com.
