Dear Editor:

The rally was great. It kept me awake and left a lot of time to think. Between the rally and two meetings, I learned enough to write a full page in the Free Lance. I am sure they won’t let me do that, so I am going to try to make this long story short.

I attended our Board of Supervisors meeting on July 6. I completely disagree with the approval of a $1.5 million bridge for the Historical Park. I worked there as a caretaker when they first opened in the late 1960s. I feel to spend that kind of money in a place not worth $500,000 does not make sense. No matter if this is state or federal money – this is taxpayer money. These types of decisions are what make our taxes go up.

A low cement crossing, 12 feet one way, would serve the purpose very well. That’s what the temporary line is. – 12 feet. The attendance at this park is very small, three or four cars a day to use the rest rooms or look at the antiques. Maybe some weekends there are picnics, but nothing very big.

A low cross could be built for under $300,000. A bridge doesn’t last more than 50 to 70 years in earthquake country. In my opinion, a low crossing would last 200 years. These plans have been on the books for at least 14 years – planned by liberal Max Bridges, a man in love with zeroes. I remember one meeting with county counsel, Max Bridges, other leaders and myself. I told Max, “if they let you in this county too long, you’re going to break this county.” The staff we have now have no clue what is good for this county. They just continue with what the liberals have left behind and succeeded to convince the Board.

If we all ran our business with this kind of attitude, we would all be broke. All of the country is in bad shape, and we are not helping with these kinds of decisions. I hope our new leaders who were present at this meeting will learn something from this decision.

This is just my opinion,

Amadeu Lima,

Hollister
