Dear Editor,
Recently my wife and I took a one-week vacation out of state. For her it was an exciting experience. She hasn’t been out of this county since her arrival 45 years ago. We flew from San Jose to Denver to Tulsa.
Of the eight days we were gone, one day we went to Missouri which I found very industrial. People live well. No one seemed in a hurry.
I find the living in this area much healthier, many choices, plenty of restaurants with great food and very reasonable. People smile to you everywhere like they’ve been our neighbors for life. Great business for cattle, plenty of rain, lots of abundant grasses. Not a lot of labor, but plenty of machinery to make things easy. You don’t see laborers looking for work. Things run very smooth. Few casinos, great entertainment for the elderly. You see people in their wheelchairs pushed by their wife or husband. Some people had walkers.
One couple told me if it weren’t for the casino we would have no way of having fun.
We enjoyed our stay so much we don’t have the words to thank the ones who gave us such a good time, our son and his wife, Manuel and Suzanne Lima.
It was hard to say good-bye. On the way home, I sat by the window on a beautiful clear afternoon and watched the wonderful scenery 20,000 feet below. A four-hour flight was like two hours.
When we got home and after watching the TV news about the homeless in Hollister, it was so disgusting it made us angry and sick. We did not like what we saw.
After the beautiful days we had in those two states we never saw a homeless person on the streets or anywhere else. This homeless in Hollister problem showed what kind of leaders have been running this county. Shame, shame.
I think it is our obligation to help. They are people too. We can’t throw on anyone else’s door what belongs to us.
The truth hurts, and that’s my feelings and I don’t regret it.
Like always this is only my opinion.
Amadeu Lima, Hollister
