The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a 26-year-old alleged gang member for allegedly stabbing two teenagers during a party last Sunday night in San Martin.

Police say that Enrique Macias, aka Chino, is a Norteño believed to be hiding somewhere in the South Valley, most likely being harbored by other alleged gang members, according to Sheriff’s Deputy Terrance Helm.

“San Martin, Gilroy, Hollister, those are the areas he is known to frequent,” Helm said.

Police learned of the stabbings after St. Louise Hospital officials notified them that two teens entered the emergency room in critical condition with multiple stab wounds. The teens were Life Flighted to San Jose Medical Center, where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Sheriff’s investigators subsequently learned the teens, age 16 and 17, drove with a friend to a party located on the 80 block of East San Martin Avenue in San Martin. Upon arriving the 5-10 135-pound Macias allegedly attacked one of the teen passengers as he stepped out of the car, stabbing him several times. Police do not yet have a motive as to why Macias allegedly stabbed the two teens.

As the driver stepped out of the vehicle to help his friend, he was also repeatedly stabbed, police say. A third teen got out of the backseat to help, but the assailant fled the scene. The driver managed to drive himself and the other victim to the hospital for treatment. Both victims are back home recovering from their injuries.

Detectives believe Macias is originally from the San Martin area, but are not entirely sure. The address listed on his driver’s license turned out to be an abandoned house and they are now trying to learn to find out where he last lived.

The stabbings come on the heels of an article recently published in The Pinnacle outlining how gang activity is growing more violent in San Benito County. The article further outlined the fluidity of the gang problem and how easy it is for hardcore gang members to slip through the cracks of law enforcement by crossing the Santa Clara-San Benito County line, because agencies on the two sides rarely share information.

Anyone with any information, questions, or concerns should contact Detective Randy Bynum at 408-808-4500.
