The Hollister Police Department is investigating a reported armed robbery at Straw Hat Pizza as police look for the gunman.
The robber reportedly stole an undisclosed amount of money at gunpoint from the San Felipe Road pizza parlor shortly after 9 p.m. Wednesday.
He is described as a younger Hispanic male wearing a black jacket and baggy pants, possibly jeans, police said.
The robbery reportedly happened when the gunman, posing as a customer, asked a clerk if he could make change for a $100 bill, police said.
When the clerk said he could not make change on a bill that large, the robber pulled out a handgun and demanded all the money in the cash register, police said.
The gunman took the money and walked away, apparently fleeing on foot, police said.
About 10 minutes after the robbery, police repeatedly combed the area in patrol cars looking for the suspect while detectives fanned out, asking questions of any potential witness in and around the restaurant.
The investigation may have been hampered by a slow response from workers at Straw Hat, who reportedly waited 10 to 15 minutes after the robbery to call police. The clerk who was robbed was reportedly allowed to go home before he could be questioned by police.
Investigators said there have been no arrests in the case. Police ask anyone with information as to the identity or whereabouts of the robbery suspect to call the HPD at 636-4330.
