The Gilroy Garlic Festival Association is inviting the public to
celebrate its 25th anniversary through the Garlic Queen.

The annual queen pageant is scheduled for Saturday, May 3, at 7 p.m. in the Gavilan College Theater. Admission is $5. Applications are now available through the Garlic Festival office at 7473 Monterey St. in Gilroy or by calling the offlce at (408) 842-1625.
Applicants must be between 18 and 24, a resident of Gilroy, Hollister, Morgan Hill, San Juan Bautista or San Martin. A contestant must also be a single female who has never been married, has no chiIdren and is a high school graduate by June of this year.
The deadline to enter is March 27 by 5 p.m.
Contestants are judged on the results of a personal interview, talent, evening gown, garlic speech, and overall poise and personality
The garlic speech porton consists of a song, skit, dance, and other talent, as long as it is about garlic.
The Gilroy Garlic Festival Association is looking for the young lady who will represent the garlic festival at the many pre-festival events, as well as represent the City of Gilroy as a goodwill ambassador.
The winner will make appearances at diffierent events for local clubs and organizations.
The Queen and her Court may also be asked to represent the Garlic Festival and/or the city at designated times throughout the year as determined by the Gilroy Garlic Festival Association.
Last year, prizes included cash, awards and a trophy from the Gilroy Garlic Festival Association, $2,300 in scholarship awards on behalf of Margarita Contin, Bob Lynch Ford, Festival Founding Fathers, Festival Past Presidents, and vanous gifts from local merchants.
In previous years, the queen has been invited to participate in the “Takko Garlic and Beef Festival” held in Gilroy’s sister city, Takko-Machi, Japan.
