The South Valley Civic Theatre will present the popular musical comedy “Sugar” on a four- weekend run at the Morgan Hill Community Playhouse starting May 16.

The setting for the play is 1931 in Chicago, during the height of Prohibition and a gang war to control the illegal distribution of alcohol.

When a speakeasy is raided by police, two out of luck musicians happen to witness the infamous St. Valentine’s Day Massacre.

Disguising themselves as women, they join an all-girl band to evade the gangsters and thus begins this sexy and outrageous comedy starring Lauren Cowen, John Brewer, Freddie Fuentes, Jon Reed, Jennifer Hamilton and Chris Souza. “Sugar” is produced by Jim Bray and Richard Kaiser and directed by Maureen Imagawa.

Performances are at the Morgan Hill Community Playhouse on the corner of Dunne Avenue and Monterey Street at 8 p.m., May 16, 17, 23 ,24, 30, 31, and June 6 and 7.

Sunday matinees are at 2 p.m. on May 25 and June 1.

Tickets are available at California Music in Gilroy, Booksmart in Morgan Hill and the Morgan Hill Community and Cultural Center during their normal business hours.

Tickets are also available online at www.svct.org.
