Chavez is particularly happy with sophomore Cisco Heath. Heath ran an 18:17 in the varsity boys division, good for 17th place.
“Cisco is running really well,” said Chavez. “He’s going to be a real good runner.”
Chavez’ No. 2 runner, Caleb Ellison, was absent Thursday and did not race. Brad Wedekind was 23rd at 19:07. There were a bunch of Hawks placing in the early 30’s –Â Danny Lowell (31st-19:59), Sam Stewart (32nd-20:01), Kevin Parsons (34th-20:11) and Alberto Mireles (35th-20:11).
As a team, the Hawks totaled 133 points, which put them in fifth, 12 points behind fourth place RLS.
“That’s not bad for our first race,” said Chavez. “These runners can shave 40 seconds off their times, at least.”
The Hawks didn’t have complete teams in the JV boys and girls varsity divisions. Sophomore Mizzy Yoes was 27th at 24:36, while sophomore Sarah Wisoksi was 29th at 25:09. Jennifer Benson placed 38th at 27:09.
On JV level, Nick Heath (21:15) and Justin Hatt (21:53) were 23rd and 28th, respectively for the Hawks. Isaiah Casberra ran a 24:05.
