Critical of the president and the democratic leadership, Howard Dean has surged from obscurity to a strong contender for the presidential nomination. He is currently leading in New Hampshire and Iowa, the first two primary states.
His long-shot bid to a serious national campaign has made gains defying labels.
His recent tour to nine cities attracted crowds from 450 in Boise, Idaho to 15,000 in Seattle, Wash., a total of more than 43,000 supporters.
