The California Highway Patrol, under the area watch of Commander Bob Davies, deserves much credit, along with all of the drivers who were smart enough to buckle their seat belts and slow down or at least observe the speed limits.

News that DUI arrests rose from 18 to 11 over last year is a sign that some people just don’t get it – and that local law enforcement was at the right place at the right time to send these drivers to court and likely sentencing.

Downtown Hollister on Saturday night was truly aglow as the 13th annual Lights On parade and festivities were a huge success.

Despite the threat of rain, more than 20,000 city and county folks lined the streets, many with their bright-eyed children at their sides, to see the beautiful floats and displays.

Liz Kresky, Executive Director of the Hollister Downtown Association, should take a bow, along with the many volunteers and parade participants who made this another night to be proud of our historic and now shining downtown.

The San Benito High School football team pulled off a stunning upset of top-ranked Los Gatos on Friday to advance to the Central Coast Section title game.

We’re proud to have a team that not only improved as the season progressed, but played with so much class and determination to represent Hollister and San Benito County on its way to the big victory.

The many former SBHS players and coaches should also take a bow for establishing such a strong and successful tradition.

Last, but certainly not least, we give thanks for the many, many volunteers who helped serve food to those less fortunate in the county on Thursday. We are proud of each and every one of you.
