Mickie Solorio Luna is headed toward a possible, narrow victory in Tuesday’s election over fellow political newcomer Victoria Montoya in their race for a Hollister council seat.
With 100 percent of precincts counted – and with limited provisional ballots left for tallying – Luna held a lead of 396 votes to 373 votes. That amounts to 51.03 percent of the vote compared to 48.07 percent for Montoya.
The two political newcomers faced off in the District 2 Hollister City Council seat formerly held by Councilman Robert Scattini, who recently moved to District 3 and is running for the open seat there against newcomer Karson Klauer.
If elected, Luna has said her goals would focus on making sure any budget cuts wouldn’t affect current employees. Montoya said her goal would be to talk to constituents about what matters to them. She said the council would be a learning experience for her.
