San Juan Bautista council members will consider approving the city’s involvement in a fire contract with Hollister following the recent approval by the county board.
San Juan council members will weigh the fire contract at a special meeting set for 8 p.m. Thursday at San Juan Bautista City Hall. It would officially form a fire-service partnership involving the two cities and county.
The Hollister proposal favored by the county – which ended its six-decade relationship with Calfire – calls for adding a fire station in north county and making use of up to 80 reserve or volunteer firefighters to man four stations in the county. That includes one station in San Juan Bautista, while the council there has agreed to fund the necessary upgrades to provide housing quarters.
