Capt. David Westrick will take over as Hollister’s police chief on July 2. Westrick served as interim police chief from April 2012 through Dec. 31, 2012, when Captain Carlos Reynoso took over interim police chief duties.
Westrick has worked in law enforcement for 23 years, including time spent in Los Banos and Redwood City. He has been with the Hollister Police Department for 10 years.
According to a press release from the police department, Westrick has had career assignments in gang enforcement, grant writing, traffic, investigations, drug interdiction, budgeting, public information, training and street crimes. He has a bachelor’s degree in public administration.
Westrick lives in San Benito County with his wife Liz and two children, Gavin and Hailee. He is involved with his family in local rodeo and 4-H. He is also a member of the Homeless Coalition, Rotary International and the 2-1-1 steering committee for the United Way of San Benito County.
“Captain Westrick has demonstrated to me during my nine years as city manager a true commitment to the department, to the city of Hollister and to the community as a whole,” said Clint Quilter, Hollister city manager. “I have complete confidence in his ability to lead the department into the future.”
In the press release, Hollister city officials acknowledged that Reynoso performed competently and conscientiously in the role of interim-chief since December 31, 2012. He will continue to be part of the management team at the police department in his role as a captain.
