Annie Tobias has been named Miss San Benito Rodeo for 2013.
Tobias competed against two other county residents, Katie Nino and Karli Skow, at the contest Saturday morning. It is open to women ages 17 to 20 who meet residency requirements and preceded the 80th annual San Benito County Saddle Horse Show & Rodeo set for June 28-30 at Bolado Park.
Duties for the Miss San Benito Rodeo include attendance at the annual Membership Barbecue, the downtown rodeo parade, the grand entry at the Saddle Horse Show, the Rodeo Family Barbecue and the annual PR Dinner. The winner also represents the rodeo association at other events such as the California Rodeo in Salinas, community functions, the county fair and Junior Rodeo.
As for the Miss San Benito Rodeo contest itself, four judges were involved and judged with 40 percent based on horsemanship, 20 percent on communication skills, 15 percent on appearance and poise, 15 percent on presentation, and 10 percent on scholarship.
In her biographical summary she wrote for the contest, Tobias noted that she is a 4-H member, served as a San Benito County All Star, took part in high school athletics, and has been involved in the horse show since age 4.
