The National Park Service is seeking public input through Oct. 23 about proposed increase in the park entrance fee from $5 to $10 to support a shuttle service, according to an announcement from Pinnacles.
It is the first proposed fee increase to support the shuttle bus system at Pinnacles. All public comments must be received by Oct. 31. The proposed fees would come into effect in 2014.
The shuttle bus system is identified in the Pinnacles National Park General Management Plan (2013) as an important tool in providing high quality visitor experiences while protecting natural and cultural resources, according to the announcement.
According to that announcement:
High numbers of visitors to the park during peak periods, such as spring and holiday weekends, creates parking and road congestion problems. Shuttle bus service eases congestion during these times. Currently, shuttles run only on weekends and holidays, from February through early July each year. The proposed fee increase would increase shuttle availability throughout the year, especially during the peak season in April and May.
