Assemblyman Luis Alejo, D-Salinas, released a statement on the governor’s “State of the State” address.
The following is the statement from Alejo, who represents San Benito County:
“We’ve had to make tough decisions these last few years to get to this point of a balanced budget without having to make drastic cuts. Although my district is still struggling with high unemployment and searching for viable economic development solutions, at least we can see the light at the end of the tunnel with new investments in K-12 education, higher education, and health care. Three areas that are very important to my constituents back home.
“Most importantly, I was excited to hear the Governor’s commitment to increase access to higher education. Our students have carried the burden of balancing the budget for too long and it shows in our decreased graduation numbers.
“Overall, I applaud the governor for his leadership on reducing the deficit and presenting us a good starting point.”
