Starting this weekend, the Hollister Animal Shelter will open on Saturdays as part of a wider change of hours.

Animal shelter Manager Julie Carreiro said she wishes the shelter could be open all day, but hopes the new hours will service the public.

“Saturday is just another day,” Carreiro said. “But hopefully, this will work out for both of us – the public and us in animal control.”

The new hours are noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, while it will be closed on Sundays, Mondays and all legal holidays. The old hours were 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The Hollister animal shelter is located on the west end of South Street in Hollister. For more information, call the shelter at (831) 636-4320 or visit the Web site at www.hollister.ca.gov/Site/html/gov/office/anictrl.asp.
