The Aromas-San Juan Unified School District is asking voters on the June ballot if they’ll pay for $18.8 million worth of projects through a bond.
The campaign committee has sent out several letters to businesses for donations. The list included Lozano-Smith, Attorneys at Law, Dilbeck & Sons Contractors, DMB, Kasavan Architects, Stone & Youngberg and Stradling Yocca Carlson & Rauth.
Stone & Youngberg and Stradling Yocca Carlson & Rauth are acting as the district’s counsel for the bond proposal, Aromas-San Juan USD Superintendent Jackie Munoz said. Each business has or might be involved with school district, she said.
Munoz said Kasavan Architects has made a donation, but it’s not a guarantee that all the companies will give funds.
The election is tri-county, so there is a fee to place the measure on the ballot in each county, she said. Munoz said the fees are paid by donations.
Projects were chosen by a committee depending on perceived needs, she said. Citizens on an oversight committee would make sure that the funds are spend right.
Munoz said any money raised can be used only for the projects. Under proposition 39 approved statewide in 2000, there is a 55 percent approval rate needed, she said.
