From 2000 to 2010, San Benito County's growth was relatively slow with about 2,000 residents added during that time, much less than a 1 percent annual rate.

Supervisor-elect Margie Barrios said she expects to make a decision on her appointment for planning commissioner at her first meeting with the board Jan. 6.

Each supervisor appoints a planning commissioner to the five-member board. The current commissioner, as chosen by Supervisor Don Marcus, is Mark Tognazzini.

“I probably would rather make that announcement at my first board meeting,” Barrios said.

Other commissioners include Dan DeVries, Gordon Machado, Richard Bettencourt and Robbie Scattini.
