Dear Editor,

This holiday season we should give thanks to all emergency workers. Emergency workers come in many shapes, sizes and trades. Typically, when most think about emergency workers they think police and fire first.

But they are also hospital staff, tow truck drivers, plumbers, electricians, and my favorite power lineman. Many of these workers will be called away at odd hours to do their special trade.

As the winds and rain hit the central coast area, many PG&E lineman will be called upon to perform their special trade. They often work through the night restoring power to hundreds and even thousands of customers.

Just this last weekend, while we in the San Benito County area were enjoying beautiful weather, Santa Cruz County was hit hard by the wind.

Trees downed power lines throughout the area. Crews were called to duty from Hollister and other areas.

They worked many hours to restore the power to thousands.

So remember, the next time you flip the switch, hang the Christmas lights, light up the walkway, cook a meal – YOU GOT POWER!

So remember to give the big blue trucks a honk and a wave this holiday season. They are working for you.
