Travis Connor Jr. needs to get his facts correct. His letter in
the Free Lance on Dec. 11 said the Republican Central Committee
”
stands on the corner of 4th and San Benito streets requesting
that we support our troops, what is the purpose?
”
Be advised the Republican Central Committee has never discussed
the Friday afternoon celebration of the Freedom Hour at any of its
meetings nor does the Central Committee support the Freedom Hour.
That may change in January. Come join us at the Hollister Library
on 5th Street, Jan. 7 at 7 p.m.

Be further advised that at least one of our regular attendees on the corner of 4th and San Benito Streets is not a registered Republican. I do not know about all the others that have joined us. This individual spent the pre-school years in a Japanese internment camp in Southeast Asia 60 years ago. Come ask this individual the purpose of the Freedom Hour.
The Hollister-in-Black people are expressing their patriotism, misguided though it may be. The Freedom Hour people across the street are also expressing their patriotism.
As for the Kyoto Global Warming Treaty, if you check your facts, I believe you will find that it was President William Jefferson Clinton, my president, which refused to submit the treaty to Congress for ratification. There may be 178 nations that have signed Kyoto but it will not become effective until countries that generate 50 percent of the industrial carbon dioxide sign on. Since Russia and the U.S. have refused, Kyoto will never become effective since these two countries generate over 50 percent of the industrial carbon dioxide.
Thank goodness President Bush followed President Clinton’s lead and did not yield sovereignty to the unelected International Criminal Court.
What else has President Bush done? As an old rocket scientist, let me count some of the ways:
1. Established the Bush Doctrine and is implementing same.
2. Three pieces of major tax cut legislation passed in three years.
3. Responded to terrorists by engaging in two major wars in three years with a larger collation of nations than during the Gulf War.
4. Engineered the largest addition to Medicare ever.
5. An immense addition to the education bill (with Ted Kennedy).
6. Policies that created an 8.2 percent increase in 3rd quarter GDP, largest in 20 years.
7. Engaged in nation building in Iraq and Afghanistan.
No president since Harry Truman has accomplished so much in three years.
And the Democratic hopefuls philosophy seems to be:
1. Vote for wars they believe never should be fought.
2. President Bush had prior knowledge of 9-11, according to Howard Dean.
3. The military is overextended, but should be smaller.
4. Nation building is always humanitarian, except in Iraq.
5. Unilateralism is always wrong, unless we are twisting Israel’s arm.
6. President Bush is a manipulating genius, who is also very stupid.
7. Small business is great, unless it is successful then it is evil big business.
8. President Bush is irresponsible for creating a $400 billion Medicare package.
9. President Bush is a tightwad because the Medicare package was not $800 billion.
10. It is preferable to oust John Ashcroft than to find Osama.
11. Cede all U.S. power to the U.N. elected by whom?
12. Share the cost and responsibility for Iraq with those who have already told us to take a hike.
13. Talk a lot, do nothing.
You said you would vote for Howard Dean. I checked my records and there is no Travis Connor registered in San Benito County. Maybe my records are not up to date. Also, there is no Travis Connor listed in the phone book. Maybe your phone number is unlisted.
One more thing. If you are going to be so formal, please refer to me as Dr. Marvin L. Jones.
