Kiddie Parade Hollister’s annual Kiddie Parade will be held
today beginning at 10 a.m. at the commuter parking lot at Veterans
Memorial Park on Memorial Drive then continuing north to Marguerite
Maze Middle School. A short program will be held at the school
following the parade. Children of all ages are welcome to
participate by walking, riding bicycles, skating or roller blading;
no motorized vehicles are permitted. All entrants will receive an
American flag. The parade is presented by the Fourth of July
Celebration Committee and sponsored in party by the city of
Hollister and the San Benito County Chamber of Commerce. For more

The annual community fireworks display will take place at dusk

Biker Breakfast The annual Biker Breakfast, sponsored by the Hollister United Methodist Church, will be held today, and again the weekend of July 11-13 from 7 a.m. to noon at the church, located at the corners of Fifth and Monterey streets. This all-you-can-eat breakfast is open to the public and includes scrambled eggs, sausage, pancakes, Texas french toast, orange juice and coffee. Cost is $9 per person or $5 for children ages 12 years and under. Take-out is available. For more information, call 637-4240.

AROMAS

“Pops & Rocks” “Pops & Rocks,” the annual Independence Day Festival Concert and Fireworks show hosted by Graniterock, will be held today at Graniterock’s A.R. Wilson Quarry beginning with a barbecue dinner fromt 4:30-7 p.m. Following the dinner will be a concert featuring headliner Kenny Loggins, who will perform a number of his greatest hits, including classic Loggins and Messina songs. A fireworks show will take place at sundown, followed by dancing to the Joe Sharino Band until 10:30 p.m.

Tickets for the concert are $45 for adults and $10 for children; dinner tickets are $21 per person. Tickets will be sold in advance only and are available by calling 768-2007 or 1-888-ROCK100. Tickets go on sale Thursday, May 15. Additional food concessions will be selling non-alcoholic beverages, hot dogs, Gizdich Ranch pie, popcorn, hot chocolate and coffee. Parking is free and wheelchair access will be provided.

SANTA CRUZ

Independence Day Celebration An old-fashioned 1906 Independence Day celebration will be held at Wilder Ranch State Park from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Docents will host picnic games such as sack races and a cake walk. Other activities include draft horse-drawn wagon rides, live old-time music and living history demonstrations of the water-powered machine shop, hand-cranked ice cream, blacksmithing and Victorian woodstove baking. Food items such as a barbecue, strawberry shortcake, root beer and lemonade will be available for purchase. A parade will be held at noon, followed by speeches and a reading of the Declaration of Independence.

Celtic Festival The 41st annual Monterey Scottish Games and Celtic Festival will be held today and tomorrow, Sunday, July 6 at Toro Park, 501 Monterey-Salinas Highway 68. This weekend festival features Scottish and Irish musicians, Scottish and Highland dancers, Irish step dancers, pipe band competitions, a special Pipe Band festival, British food and crafts, athletic competitions including the Caber Toss and more. General admission is $20 for adults for one day or $34 for two days. Children ages 7-12 years are $12 for one day or $17 for both days and children ages 6 years are free. “Broadway: A Musical” The Bruce Arliss Wharf Theater will presents “Broadway: A Musical” beginning tonight at 8:30 p.m. The show will run Thursdays through Sundays through Aug. 31. Antique Show and Sale The 51st annual St. Marys-by-the-Sea Antiques and Collectibles Show and Sale begins today from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the church, 146 12th St. Collectibles and antiques available for purchase include silver, hollowware, flatware, jewelry, Bakelite fashion accessories, collectible books, fine art, glassware, vintage clothing, toys and small furniture. Gallery Walk San Juan Bautista galleries will host the city’s monthly artist reception and gallery walk today beginning at 1 p.m. More than 25 local painters will be on display during the walk, which is open from 1-7 p.m. An artist’s reception for this month’s featured artist, Karen Garnett, will be held from 5-7 p.m. at Casa Galleria. Jazz under the Stars The third annual Jazz under the Stars event will be held tonight from 6:30-9:30 p.m. at the Ridgemark Golf and Country Club tennis center. This outdoor event will include food, wine, a silent auction and live entertainment provided by the Magnolia Jazz Band. Guests must be a minimum age of 21 years. Summer Music Fest Jazz artist John Garcia will be one of several jazz musicians performing at the Summer Music Fest and Barbecue held today and tomorrow, Sunday, July 20 from noon until dusk at the Roth House, 7469 Forest ST. Tours of the historical house will be available, as well as live music, fun jumpers for children and barbecue. “Urinetown the Musical” The Monterey Peninsula College Theatre department will present “Urinetown: the Musical” beginning tonight at 7 p.m. at the Morgan Stock Stage at MPC, 980 Fremont St. The show is set in a town plagued by a 20-year drought, where water has become so scarce that private toilets are unthinkable and one large corporation has a monopoly on the town’s amenities. The show will run Thursday-Sunday July 31 through Aug. 16. Thursday shows begin at 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday shows at 8 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m.
