The Hollister City Council on Monday voted to increase the fuel-flow tax at the airport from 5 cents per gallon to 8 cents – while the proposal to hike the rate to 12 cents was shot down in a 3-2 vote.

Council members two weeks ago voted 2-2 on increasing the fuel-flow rate from 5 cents to 12. Councilman Ray Friend was absent at that meeting. Council members Doug Emerson and Pauline supported it while Victor Gomez and Robert Scattini opposed it.

On Monday, Friend opposed the 12-cent rate – which would be the second highest in the region next to Livermore – and then proposed the council approve a 3-cent increase to the 8-cent tax.

Council members approved that in a 3-2 vote. Council members Scattini and Valdivia opposed it.
