The city’s interim engineering manager brought on in August is set to have his contract extended until March 1 because officials have yet to begin a search for a permanent successor.
Council members will consider extending Clifford Swanson’s contract at their 6:30 p.m. Monday meeting at Hollister City Hall, 375 Fifth St.
The city’s contract with Swanson – who has more than 40 years of experience, most recently as engineering director for Chula Vista – expires on Jan. 1, according to a staff report for the meeting.
Former Engineering Manager Steve Wittry in July was hired as San Benito County’s public works administrator, leading to the open position, which oversees engineering activities as well as the wastewater treatment plant operation.
Council members in August agreed to hire Swanson at an estimated cost of $3,500 per month, which officials say is about half the cost of employing Wittry when he was with the city.
