The Hollister City Council authorized $71,500 for the shared cost to renovate the Hollister School District Complex at the Maze Middle School Athletic Field.

The money will come from the parks impact fund, which generates money from building impact fees. However, no fees have been placed in the fund since a building moratorium was implemented in May 2002 after the 15 million gallon sewage spill.

The city and the HSD entered into a contract in 1997, and the city has previously paid $65,500. The city’s total share of $136,000 is 49 percent of the total.

Council also approved a resolution restricting residents’ amendments to the 1995 General Plan. The city is currently in the process of updating that General Plan.

The Community Development Department requested the resolution to avoid potential conflicts with the current update, according to a staff report.

Members also authorized the fire department to eliminate weeds on properties where a fire hazard exists.

The city sent notices to 140 property owners June 3 warning them to clear their properties or a city-hired contractor would be complete the work at the owner’s expense.

Also, Council approved project plans to install fencing and signs at the industrial wastewater plant at a cost of $20,000.

The work is designed to provide security to the plant and protection to visitors of the animal shelter from entering the plant, according to a staff report.
