Many city workers supported the sales tax increase approved by voters in November, which is allowing Hollister officials to consider pay increases for the first time in several years.

The Hollister City Council on Monday is set to consider a contract between the city and the Service Employees International Union Local 521 for pay increases over the next three years.

The agreement between the union and city includes “a lot of little things,” said City Manager Clint Quilter, but the main focus is pay increases for city union employees. The three-year deal calls for pay increases of 4 percent this year, 4 percent next year and 2 percent in 2010.

The council meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Monday at Hollister City Hall, 375 Fifth St.

The council will act on a resolution to remove the interim status for Interim Fire Chief Fred Cheshire. With this move, Cheshire will get a 5 percent pay increase.

Additionally, on Thursday the first draft of the Project Planning Scale will be presented at a special joint meeting between the Hollister Planning Commission and the council. The planning scale will be similar to what the county already uses to choose the “best projects that should move forward first,” said Hollister Development Services Director Bill Avera. This will eventually form a rating scale for future building submittals.
