The city council moved to immediately terminate Parks and Recreation Commissioner Don Kelley from his position with the city due to a perceived conflict of interest while citing an “incompatibility of offices,” said City Manager Clint Quilter.
Kelley, who was appointed to the parks and recreation position eight years ago, noted how the council was thankful for his work with the parks.
The decision was approved by a 3-2 margin. Councilman Brad Pike and councilwoman Eugenia Sanchez voted to keep Kelley in his position, while Mayor Doug Emerson and Councilwomen Pauline Valdivia and Monica Johnson voted to remove him.
Emerson broached the idea of removing Kelley because he was appointed to the San Benito County Parks and Recreation Commission in early 2007 as well.
