County supervisors Tuesday put off a decision on potentially supporting a Tourism Business Improvement District.
Staff officials presented supervisors with a plan to get behind a so-called TBID – requiring approval from the county and two cities – but were told a decision would have to wait. The board members preferred having staff leaders discuss the matter with affected stakeholders – those talks had been planned before the board meeting, for Wednesday – before taking a stand.
The TBID would involve formation of an assessment district to pay for organized tourism promotion in the county. The idea comes on the heels of some major tourism boosts for the county such as the revival of the Hollister Rally motorcycle event and the declaration of Pinnacles as a national park.
Look back for more from the board’s discussion in next week’s edition.
