Hollister – The San Benito County Board of Supervisors may approve its budget for fiscal year 2007-08 and take a final look at changing county growth rules on Tuesday.

The proposed budget totals $113.2 million, including $379,877 for the Board of Supervisors, $1.5 million for the District Attorney’s Office and $4.9 million for the Sheriff’s Office. The supervisors already reviewed the budget in early August, so they aren’t likely to make any big changes.

The board will also consider giving final approval to controversial revisions in the Potential Residential Growth Increase ordinance. Under the existing ordinance, any development of more than 100 units requiring a general plan amendment would be subject to a binding vote of the people soon after an application is submitted. The proposed changes would move that election to the end of the planning process.

Proponents of the later election have said it would allow people to cast more informed votes, but opponents argue that the delay lessens the power of the election.
