The county hopes to commence remodeling on the clerk’s office soon, County Clerk Joe Paul Gonzalez has said. The project has been given the green light and currently, the county hopes to begin after Thanksgiving, said County Capital Projects Manager Theresa Yee.
The remodeling is a two-part project that will include work to the clerk’s office first, then work on the hall of records. The clerk’s office has asbestos ceiling tiles that need to be removed, which will primarily be done on the weekends, Yee said. The other major aspect of the project is knocking down walls and placing new ones in a more strategic pattern. This will be done to change the configuration of workflow and make it more efficient, said Gonzalez. The office also will then receive new paint and carpet.
The second phase of the remodel will be restoring the hall of records. Gonzalez said they “want to maintain the antiquity as best as we can.” The hall will be painted once it receives its restoration.
Yee is hoping that the project will start soon so that it can meet its estimated completion date of March 9.
The clerk’s office will remain open during the remodel, although some services will be placed in different offices during different periods. Most of the relocation will be to the assessor’s office.
