Two new technological advancements have been made available from San Benito County that should allow easier access for applications and forms.

Four forms, all which must be filed with the clerk of the board, recently have been made available on the county’s Web site.

The move to put the forms online was made to save time, said Clerk of the Board Linda Churchill.

“It’s a money-saving issue in that significant staff time will be saved.,” she said.

In the past, these forms would have to be requested by someone and would either be mailed, picked up or e-mailed. Not only will it save staff the time in either mailing or e-mailing the forms, but it also will save time for the person filling out the forms, she said.

“(I’m) hoping that the public can access these in a timely manner,” Churchill said.

It’s county officials’ hope to put more forms online and then have them completed electronically.

According to the county Web site, the available forms are: Appeal Form (Planning Commission Decision), Application for Changed Assessment, Claim Against The County Form and Boards and Commissions Membership Application.

They are available at www.san-benito.ca.us/forms.

A job kiosk also has been available, since Sept. 15, for persons interested in applying for county jobs but do not have Internet access at home.

County Human Resources Analyst Jackie Credico pointed out how a substance abuse counselor position was posted on Sept. 15, remained open for 4 weeks and closed on Oct. 17. In those four weeks, the posting had 555 hits, and 42 people applied.

Credico called it “a very nice response for us.” She said the county hasn’t been able to measure the amount of money saved on supplies such as stamps and printing of forms now, but added that this is “an easier application.”

The county is using NEOGOV for their applications, which hosts the recruitment program. When someone applies for a job, they are actually being redirected to the NEOGOV Web site. It also features a link from which applicants can be e-mailed when relevant jobs are posted.

Credico noted that applicants also can go to the San Benito County Free Library or the One-Stop Career Center on San Felipe Road.

The kiosk is available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the County Administration Building, 481 Fourth St.
