The county has hired an outside company to handle the search for both the county counsel and public works administrator positions that have become open over the last five months.

Bob Murray and Associates, a firm that specializes in public-sector executive recruitments, was hired to replace the vacancies left by the retirement of former County Counsel Dennis LeClere and the firing former Public Works Administrator Jerry Lo. In the interim, Janelle Cox has filled in for Lo as the acting public works administrator.

The positions were opened to the public on Jan. 26 and will close on March 23. Once that period has ended, the first screening will begin by Bob Murray and Associates and that firm will make its recommendations to the county of the top candidates, Human Resources Management Analyst Jacki Credico said.

After receiving the list of the top candidates for each position, the county will then establish the proper panels to interview the candidates. The panels will be “comprised of subject-area experts and administrative individuals,” Credico said. The county counsel candidates also will be interviewed by the board of supervisors, who appoint that position. The public works administrative position will be interviewed by County Administrative Officer Susan Thompson, who appoints that position.

Credico explained that Cox has the ability to go back to her previous position in the county.

“Janelle Cox would have retreat rights to her old position if she doesn’t apply for this (public works administrator) position,” Credico said.

If she decided not to apply, Cox would resume her old position of management analyst 3.
