Hollister – The San Benito County Board of Supervisors will consider a revision of the Potential Residential Growth Increase program, which could have major implications for the El Rancho San Benito development.

The PRGI program requires any proposed development of more than 100 units to seek the approval of county voters. Under the existing rules, that election must be held shortly after an application is submitted. The proposed changes would shift the election to the end of the application process.

Ray Becker, project manager for the proposed 6,400-unit El Rancho San Benito development, said developer DMB is pushing for the change because a delayed election would give the company more time to address concerns.

The final vote on the changes is scheduled for July 24.

The supervisors will also discuss the allocation of state and federal public works money. According to a report from Public Works Director Jerry Lo, San Benito County will likely receive $2.8 million in Proposition 1B funds over the next two years. Lo recommends using 70 percent to 100 percent of that money for road maintenance.

The supervisors’ meeting will begin at 9:30am Tuesday in the County Administration Office at 481 Fourth St.
