District 5 Councilwoman Monica Johnson announced Monday night she would not seek reelection after her first term ends in November, leaving the seat open as Hollister attempts to rejuvenate its economy with the six-year building moratorium ending this summer.

Johnson has served on the council since she defeated then-incumbent Tony Bruscia in 2004. She cited “personal reasons” for her decision against running again at Monday’s meeting, City Manager Clint Quilter confirmed.

Along with that seat, District 1 Councilman Brad Pike and District 4 Councilman Doug Emerson, the current mayor, also are up for reelection in November.

New council members will be seated during the first December council meeting.
