Poll workers prepare the ballots for voters at the polling place at Rancho San Justo Middle School in 2012.

Hollister voters appear headed toward favoring an at-large mayoral election with four council districts, along with a two-year term for the top city job, according to unofficial election results.

Early election results, made up of mail-in ballots, show Hollister voters in favor of Measure B – calling for an at-large mayor with four council districts – and a two-year term for that position on a separate measure.

Voters were 72.1 percent to 27.9 percent supportive of the measure – or 1,433 votes to 554 – for a mayor elected by the entire city. Traditionally, five council members have rotated year to year in the role.

Voters were 64.3 percent to 35.8 percent supportive of two years instead of four years for the mayor. That amounts to 1,258 votes against 700 votes, according to results.
