The Economic Development Corp. of San Benito County on Tuesday will ask supervisors for an additional $20,000 on top of the annual $50,000 contribution to the organization, according to the proposal in a staff report for the meeting.
The San Benito County Board of Supervisors are set to meet at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the County Administration Building, 481 Fourth St. EDC President Nancy Martin is expected to give a presentation urging the board for the additional money.
A month ago, the Hollister City Council agreed to up its annual contribution – through the Hollister Redevelopment Agency – from $50,000 to $75,000.
As supervisors consider whether to increase the EDC contribution as proposed, they also are struggling with a deficit and likely cuts in the years to come. Expenditures are on pace to exceed revenues by more than $10 million this fiscal year, according to a presentation last week from the county administrative officer.
