Both city and county voters are headed toward rejecting separate proposals to increase the hotel tax from 8 percent to 12 percent in the area, according to early election results.
The two government bodies separately attempted to increase the transient occupancy tax charged to lodging customers. City and county leaders had hoped to use the additional tax revenue to promote tourism efforts for the community.
Tuesday’s results showed the city’s Measure L was losing 67.49 percent to 32.51 percent and the county’s Measure I losing 60.72 percent to 39.28 percent, according to unofficial results.
