Jerry died while on vacation on March 26, 2007 at the age of 73. Jerry was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.

Born in Boise, Idaho, Jerry began working for the railroad before enlisting in the Army in 1955. Having to retire due to medical reasons, he moved to California in 1967 and began a distinguished career with IBM Research prior to his retirement in 1992. Not liking to be idle, recently Jerry spent his time completing projects around his home, helping friends, taking care of the local water board, spending time with family and traveling the world. Jerry is known for his sense of humor, frank honesty, dependability, and helpfulness. He will be missed by those who knew and loved him.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Ellen, his children; Donald Ayers, Ronald Ayers, & Patricia Ayers, their spouses Kim and Janet, and his grandchildren; Julie Ayers, Cody Ayers, Jacquelyn Haughey and Matthew Ayers. He is also survived by brothers; Larry, Don, Bill, Carl, and Ted, sister Gladys, numerous in-laws and nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews and great grand nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Gladys, his stepfather Pete, brothers; Ray, Jim, and Bob and sisters Mary and Kay, and his granddaughter Erin.

Viewing will be Monday, April 2 at 1 P.M. with services on Tuesday, April 3 at 2 P.M. at Habing Funeral Home, 129 4th Street, Gilroy, CA. Burial is to follow at Gavilan Hills Memorial Park.
