How can local leaders celebrate Independence Day while undermining the foundation of our liberty, freedom and independence? Local leaders proclaim the benefits of Sovietization-nationalization, while hoping that voters will forget the negatives of anticapitalism schemes like redevelopment agencies. If we defeated the USSR, then why are we adopting the Soviets’ failed economic policy? An acronym of government, e.g., RDA, is still government and socialism.

The founders believed that he governs best who governs least. Our leaders appear to believe just the opposite. Every dollar that they take out of the private sector to use for their pork projects, e.g., new government buildings like COG’s deluxe headquarters, VTA’s Taj Majal, marble-lined government buildings “porked” with taxpayers’ hard-earned money, is money that they legally steal for the public sector.

As they grow their taxpayer-funded kingdoms, the private sector suffers. Witness the absence of private sector carriers in the for-hire carriage of passenger business in our County-while taxpayers pay 99 percent of the cost of transit riders’ rides.

While spreading the cancer in our county may benefit some other cancerous tumors, in the long run the body politic is doomed, as history shows with Soviet Union, East Germany, Rumania, Bulgaria, and the rest of the “Eastern Bloc” of communist countries. “What should government do and what should it leave to others?” is not only the “crucial question” in transport, but in all other part of our society, e.g., manufacturing, retail, wholesale, distribution, trades and professions, dental, accounting, legal and medical occupations, etc.

When our leaders forget that they serve us, spend our money, and serve subject to the will of the electorate, then they must be removed before they grow their cancer and kill more of the private capitalist sector. The free enterprise society that we inherited from our grandparents is being ruined by radical socialists in our government.

It’s time that we returned to our free enterprise roots and remove elected leaders who are blind to the cancer that they are spreading. Jefferson called it, “a long train of abuses and usurpations.” Our leaders are doing it to us much worse than Jefferson’s generation suffered under the King’s government. Caveat viator.
