Motorcycle rally

The Hollister City Council on Monday unanimously approved sanctioning a 2013 motorcycle rally and hired North Carolina-based Worldwide Dynamics as event manager.

Council members voted to revive the city’s traditional motorcycle rally that has been dormant since 2008.

The proposal from Worldwide Dynamics and CEO Mark Cresswell calls for holding the “Hollister Independence Day Festival and Gypsy Tour” on July 5 and July 6, the Friday and Saturday after the holiday.

The city is set to reduce the number of event days from three to two. That reduction would contribute to a security bill of $113,400 – around one-third of the law enforcement cost in 2008. Hollister officials also would allow the return of parked motorcycles to San Benito Street.

Council members unanimously supported the items on the agenda after a brief presentation from Cresswell and four speeches during public comment. The approval was followed by applause from those in the audience.
