People gather on the corner of Fourth and West streets Thursday afternoon to protest budget cuts that would affect the homecare workers in San Benito County.

Residents Thursday protested outside the San Benito County Administration Building and argued that the 20 percent cut to the state’s in-home supportive services threatens “the well-being of thousands of elderly and disabled Californians and the livelihoods of those who care for them,” according to the announcement from the South Bay AFL-CIO Labor Council.

They were joined by members of the Occupy Hollister movement, while there were about two dozen people taking part.

In came as Oakland Federal District Judge Claudia Wilken could rule Thursday afternoon on whether to block the state IHSS funding cuts.
